Juliana M. Pistorius

Juliana M. Pistorius is a European research advisor at Ghent University, Belgium. Her work engages with the social and political role of Western Art Music in the postcolony, with a focus on South Africa. She is a founding member of the Black Opera Research Network and a research fellow at Africa Open Institute for Music, Research and Innovation at Stellenbosch University. Her publications appear in Social Dynamics, Music & Letters, Cambridge Opera Journal, Journal of the American Musicological Society, and Twentieth-Century Music. She is the author of Postcolonial Opera: William Kentridge and the Unbounded Work of Art (OUP, 2025).
