Olivia Bloechl

Olivia Bloechl is professor of music (musicology) at the University of Pittsburgh. A music historian and cultural theorist, her research focuses on music and sound in North Atlantic empires (1600–1800), French opera to 1800, postcolonialism and politics of music, and global music history. She is the author of Native American Song at the Frontiers of Early Modern Music (Cambridge Univ. Press, 2008) and Opera and the Political Imaginary in Old Regime France (Chicago Univ. Press, 2017). In 2015, she co-edited Rethinking Difference in Music Scholarship (with Melanie Lowe and Jeffrey Kallberg). She is currently working on a book project, “Song and Music in the Seven Years’ War for Northeastern Native America.”
